Sedric D’Andre Myers, a proud 1991 graduate of Jackson State University received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Technology (Hazardous Materials Management). Sedric knew instinctively upon graduation that “to whom much is given, much is required,” Luke 12:48. Therefore, he thrust himself into being a “Sincere, Engaged, and Driven” (SED) JSU alumnus. Sedric’s mother, Everlena Myers, a 1971 graduate of JSU and an educator, instilled in him not only the value of an education, but the importance of philanthropy to JSU. Being 2nd generation alum meant carrying on the legacy, not only for the Myers family, but all prospective students. To be a part of such a rich history and academic enrichment programs. SED’s pondering question is, “If we don’t, then who will?”
Sedric’s sincere commitment to JSU far exceeds one’s expectations by his continuous involvement at all levels. As a life member of JSUNAA, Sedric’s engagement and support for JSU has included over 20 consistent years of activism. His leadership includes Jackson State University National Alumni Association’s (JSUNAA) Southwest Regional Vice President (2012-present), JSUNAA Southwest Board Member (2010-2012), President of the JSU Houston Alumni Chapter (2006-2012), 8th Biennial Committee chairperson (2011), member, the Black Tie Gala Planning Committee (2012), and Biennial Conference Committee (2013). Sedric’s deep commitment to student recruitment and scholarship is exemplified through his active student recruitment and his contribution of more than $25,000 for student scholarship and various development campaigns and endowment funds.
Sedric is an action-oriented leader by being engaged in various JSU and civic events. After careful assessment of the limited JSU athletic facilities on campus, Sedric, along with the Tiger Fund Athletic Foundation, immediately coordinated a committee to raise millions. Subsequently, Sedric was appointed the chairman of the “Building Champion’s Campaign.” Sedric’s “drive” has caused him to pledge his resources (time & money) to erect a state of the arts athletic facility for all JSU athletes. Again, “SED’s” philosophy to elevate the JSU’s athletic facilities is “If we don’t, then who will?”
Sedric is not only sincere, engaged, and driven as it related to JSU, but is equally as committed in his church, professional career and civic organizations. Sedric is a member of the Fort Bend Church located in Sugar Land, Texas. He serves on the parking ministry. His distinguished service is evident in his professional career, where he has over 20 years of sales and management experience. He is the Business Development Manager for Lion Industrial Resources, and was inducted into the Sales Excellence Council for his outstanding performance during the 2013 National Sales meeting. His activism extends to the community where he holds membership in the Texas Association of Sports Officials and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. He is also actively involved in the civic community where he works to uplift the community. He has served as chairman for the following Omega Psi Phi Fraternity’s mandated programs: Big Brothers Big Sister Greek Bowl, Fatherhood/ Mentorship Initiatives, Team Captain for the American Diabetes Walk A Thon, and logistics coordinator for the UNCF Walk A Thon and recently elected Board Member of the Omega Life Membership Foundation, all while promoting JSU. He has received awards for his devotion, loyalty, and dedication both professionally and in the community.
Sedric, an outstanding and well-rounded individual, is totally committed to upholding the values and mission of JSU and JSUNAA. He and his wife Regina (C/O 1995) will continue the JSU legacy with other generations of the family, 3rd Generation – Adrianne/daughter (C/O 2010 & 2013), Sean/son (C/O 2032), and Alani/grand-daughter (C/O 2038).
Sedric’s sincere commitment, engaged activism, and driven dedication to “One JSU” is exemplified in his daily endeavors, thereby demonstrating strong evidence of his capabilities of being Alumnus of the Year.
